My Top 5 Healthy Habits To Boost Your Overall Health
My Top 5 Healthy Habits To Boost Your Overall Health
Being healthy and developing healthy habits are what we need to crush our goals, dreams and desires each and everyday. Sometimes, these can sound more daunting than what they actually are. It's important to note everyone is different and everyone has different interests, needs, wants and desires. What is a healthy habit to one person could be an unhealthy habit to someone else. It's important to do what's best for YOU and what suits YOUR lifestyle! Like anything new, making healthy habits stick sustainably overtime will take TIME! So please be patience and make sure to keep at it! Below are healthy habits I've tried to incorporate into my daily routine, which I think can seriously benefit YOU and help boost your overall health, as they have done for me! 1. Eat A Variety Of Healthy Foods It's important to eat healthy food of course, but it is super important to eat food YOU love. I love eating a variety of food because it allows me to eat from a broad 'diet' each and every week and saves me getting bored of food.  On my website and in my BARE Guide I have hundreds of healthy recipes that will provide you with lots and lots of variation throughout the week. I always tell my friends to start small! 2. Drink Water One that I have tried to recently incorporate is drinking more water throughout the day, especially while I'm at my desk. If you're not getting enough water into your body each and every day your body won't be functioning at its optimal level.  If you're wondering how much water you should be drinking each day and would like tips on how to drink more water each day, check out my tips on exactly how much water should I be drinking in a day. 3. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep Now I'm not saying to sleep all day, because if I could.. I totally would. However, it's important to get between 7 - 9 hours sleep each night, so your body can repair itself and replenish all of your energy stores, so you can wake up feeling fresh and ready to conquer the day. 4. Cook At Home Now, we all know how much I love cooking.. Maybe a little more than the average person, however, cooking at home will instantly make you healthier.. Okay maybe not, but things like meal prep and batch cooking will allow you to make healthier choices in the kitchen! There's nothing worse than getting to work and forgetting lunch at home, so you're forced to buy a pie from the local deli. Trust me, that Tuna Greek Salad is much healthier. 5. Exercise Regularly I can't stress this one enough, it's important to get moving and exercise regularly. Have you ever noticed how good you feel after a workout? I mean.. after the feeling of death! Exercise is crucial and can have a number of benefits to ones physical, mental and emotional health.  While exercising isn't always easy, I would recommend starting small and exercising around YOUR schedule. Start 2-3 times a week by just getting your body moving and at a time of the day that you feel like you have an abundance of energy. By incorporating small doses of exercise into your daily/weekly routine you'll start to feel much better. I hope you enjoyed this blog post on My Top 5 Healthy Habits To Boost Your Overall Health! My Top 5 Healthy Eating Tips - EVERYTHING You Need To Know!
My Top 5 Healthy Eating Tips - EVERYTHING You Need To Know!
Healthy eating can often be daunting and extremely hard, sometimes, we don't even know where to start, which is why I'm giving you 'My Top 5 Healthy Eating Tips' and everything YOU need to know, so you can eat the BARE way for life. Often, the hardest thing about healthy eating, is making a healthy habit stick for good! Too many times we see loads and loads of information online about how you should or shouldn't be eating and it often leads us to information overload.. and leaves us feeling confused and unmotivated. This is why my BARE Guide will help show you how to make healthy eating sustainable for life, while eating all of your favourite foods like pastas, burgers, curries, pizzas, pancakes and much more. Firstly, let me explain a little more about my BARE way of eating and then I'll dive straight into my top tips! What The BARE Way Of Eating? BARE is not a 'diet' so to speak, it's a way of life! BARE stands for my Balanced and Realistic Eating Guide, which is a healthy eating food plan, which encompasses a healthy eating approach to life, while being suitable to your healthy and fitness goals. BARE allows you to eat all of your favourite foods, such as pastas, pizzas, curries, burgers and much more, all while being healthy. The BARE way of eating is here to help educate YOU and motivate YOU to make a healthy eating change, for life! What A Day Of BARE Looks Like? Breakfast - Snickers Overnight Oats Snack 1 - Bacon Pinwheels Lunch - Greek Tuna Salad Snack 2 - Loaded Guac With Pita Chips Dinner - Chicken Pesto Pasta Please note, everyone is different and has different goals, so your meal plan may differ depending on how much food you would normally consume. Some days I only feel like eating one snack so I'll leave the other out, and that is okay too.  Each meal/day/week of food has been dietitian approved to ensure you're getting all of the micro and macronutrients your body needs to operate and thrive each and everyday.  My Top 5 Healthy Eating Tips 1. Have A Plan For Success To make healthy eating a lifestyle, you must have a plan in place to help you achieve this each and every week. For me, this is as simple as following our BARE Guide meal planner, which allows me to plan out my meals for the entire week. This in combination with our BARE Guide shopping list planner, really helps me stay on track throughout the week and really takes the 'decision making' part of 'What's for dinner?" out of the equation. 2. Meal Prep For Success Following on from the above, when I know I have a busy week ahead, I'll meal prep most of my foods, only to save me time and effort in the kitchen throughout a busy week. Meal prepping doesn't mean you have to COOK all of your meals ahead of time. One tip I love to give people that I do quite often is just pre slicing all of your veggies and pre marinating your meat.. I mean it's so simple, but saves you so much time in the kitchen. Plenty of meals such as overnight oats can be prepped ahead of time to save your time in the kitchen in the morning. Meal prep is one of the best ways to help make healthy eating sustainable for life.   3. Don't Be Restrictive Often we fail on a 'meal plan' or 'diet' because it seems to be working well.. until it doesn't work anymore. Quite often I see people falling off the bandwagon because they're quite often being restrictive and not actually nourishing their bodies with what they're craving. Through eating from BARE, we don't restrict food groups, instead we actually allow you to eat all of your favourite foods, just made in a healthier way! 4. Listen To Your Body This has to be one of the most important tips. Don't ignore your hunger pains or your full stomach. Don't prolong eating because you think not eating will help you lose weight quicker. Our bodies are the best cue for food, it's important to listen to your body.. I know some nights I just crave a big bowl of pasta after a long hard workout at the gym.. and you know what, that's okay! 5. Find Out What Works For YOU And Stick To It! One thing I tell all of the amazing women in our BARE Guide community is you need to do what's best for YOU! Only you will know if you're needing pasta tonight and only you will know if the portion sizes are too big or small for you! Everyone is different, everyone has different goals, needs, wants, desires and you must do what is best for YOU to achieve them! Of course it's great to check in with others and see what they're doing and to learn from them, however, at the end of the day.. come up with a healthy eating solution that suits YOU that you'll be able to use for LIFE! I hope you loved this blog post and I hope you learnt something today! If there's anything else you'd like to hear about or see.. Please let me know! Leah xx

My Daily Meal Plan For Busy Women
My Daily Meal Plan For Busy Women
I don't know one single person in the world who hasn't struggled with time when it comes to cooking.  You're busy. I'm busy. Everyone's busy. There's not many people who can - or let's face it actually want to - spend hours in the kitchen. BUT the reality is...we still want food! We need food! (Can't live with out it - literally!) Preferably yummy, fresh, nourishing food that takes 10 minutes to cook. So here is my solution for YOU! A super easy daily meal plan designed to fit into your busy life. If you're ever time poor, crazy busy, have no idea what to make or feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the idea of cooking then come back to this. This is the perfect place to start for anyone who has no time...so basically everyone! Let's get started...   BREAKFAST Ok so I know we're all busy but everyone has 5 minutes to make overnight oats. This is the perfect easy and tasty breakfast with endless flavour combinations. The trick is to make them night before! While your making dinner take a moment to simply put all you ingredients in a container...I'm talking oats, choice of milk and any extras (e.g. berries, protein powder, chai seeds, peanut butter)...stir and then put in the fridge. It doesn't get an easier than that.  Overnight oats can last 5 days in the fridge so make a up a few containers so you have breakfast all ready to go for the next few days! You can even heat them up in the microwave for 1 minute if your craving a warm breakfast! I have so many AMAZING overnight oats recipes! From Peanut Butter and Cacao to Chocolate to Vanilla and Berry. YUM! Check them all out here. For more easy breakfast ideas check out this blog post here and same rule...make in bulk!       SNACKS Snacks are life! They're what get you through the day, keep you full and stop you from demolishing the cookie jar at 10am and 3pm. Now... ...I have some great snack recipes that you can create a big batch in under 30 and keep you going for the rest of the week! I'm talking Protein Balls, Egg Breakfast Muffins, Spicy Trail Mix & Peanut Butter Bars.  BUT... ...I also have some great quick snack ideas you can make at work or home. 1. Have carrots & cucumber on hand to cut up when you hungry and eat with hummus (Store bought or make your own here) 2. Protein yoghurt or yoghurt with berries. 3. Piece of fruit with nut butter (If you're feeling it you can easily make your own here) Tip: If you have a fridge at work, keep your snack ingredients in there so you can grab them when you need them. That way you don't need to be constantly prepping ahead of time.     LUNCH & DINNER This is where a little organisation makes a world of difference! When you're cooking dinner or lunch go by the rule "Cook Once, Eat Three"! Basically, every time you're cooking, you want to be making enough for at least a couple of leftovers (for each person). This might take you 10-15 extra minutes to make more but will save you heaps of time and money in the long run! Leftovers are the perfect grab and go lunch, and easy dinner. If you don't want to eat the meal 3 days straight then just pop a serve in the freezer for when you want it. BUT I know what you're thinking... ...I still have to cook to get leftovers!  Yes! That's still true but these amazing recipes below make leftovers and meal prepping super easy. 1. Honey Salmon 2. Mexican Beef 3. Chilli Lime Chicken 4. Tumeric Rice with Sweet Potato and Black Beans Plus so many more here! Also check out these blog posts for healthy work lunch ideas, easy dinner recipes, my top 15 minutes dinners and also 3 best one tray dinners.     Give the plan a go and try a recipe or two this week and let me know your thoughts in the comments below. My 4 Genius Tips On How To Navigate Supermarkets
My 4 Genius Tips On How To Navigate Supermarkets
Hey lovely ladies.. below are My 4 Genius Tips On How To Navigate Supermarkets Healthy food choices start in the supermarket. Supermarkets are very strategic in influencing our food choices, even their layout is specifically designed to maximise our spending. Below are my tips on how to shop efficiently! PLAN: Planning is key to successful and healthy grocery shopping. If you go to the supermarket without a shopping list, you are likely to spend more money, waste more time, and forget essential items. Use my weekly meal planners and shopping list templates to help make your shopping trips more efficient and cost-effective. I’ll typically cross items off my shopping list once I’ve added them to my basket! SHOP THE PERIMETER: Generally speaking, the fresh produce – vegetables, fruit, dairy, eggs, meats – are located around the perimeter of the store. Follow the perimeter to grab your fresh items, then shop in the aisles for ingredients such as wholegrains, oils and dried herbs. BUY IN BULK: This is one of my best tips! Buying food in bulk for the entire week will reduce the number of times you need to return to the shops, and the less you go to the shops the more money you will save. It’s a win, win! If you spot an ingredient you use all the time on sale, buy it in bulk. You’ll often see me buying a dozen or more cans of diced tomatoes, chickpeas or beans when they’re on special at my local supermarket. Fresh meat, poultry and fish can be frozen, so buy these in bulk too and throw them in the freezer for another day. Fish can last up to 3 months in the freezer, red meat and poultry can last up to 6 months. DON’T SHOP ON AN EMPTY STOMACH: If you are anything like me, the worst thing you can do is go shopping when you’re hungry. This can lead to poor choices, such as buying convenience foods and excessive snacking on the way home.   I hope you loved this blog! Let me know what else you'd like to see :)Leah xx
Top 6 Healthy Burger Recipes That Taste Better Than Takeout
Top 6 Healthy Burger Recipes That Taste Better Than Takeout
Mmmm...I LOVE  a good burger! I mean who doesn't?? Filling, tasty and oh so comfy! BUT here's the thing... A good burger can also be incredibly nourishing!  It's easy to just think of Maccas (Which is Aussie slang MacDonalds my American friends) when some one says burger but in reality there are so many AMAZING and mouth watering healthy options that taste even better - I'm not exaggerating here! So let's get into the good stuff! Here are 6 top healthy burgers that taste better than takeout...get excited!   1. Homemade Beef Burgers No need to go out for burgers when you can make amazingly delicious ones in the comfort of your own home! These can be used as meatballs so no need to flatten if you'd like meatballs!     2. Mushroom and Haloumi Burgers Mushrooms are my favourite addition to any meal and are super good for your health - they're absolutely packed full of nutritious vitamins and minerals!! For this summer burger recipe, I used a big Portobella mushroom in place of the meat. This mushroom is large in shape, but once cooked is has a similar texture to meat, which is why it is such a great option for vegetarians and vegans!     3. Thai Chicken Burgers This is something that you guys will absolutely LOVE! Super easy and a delicious dinner when paired with a yummy salad and some rice!      4. No Bun Burgers If you're wanting a quick, light but super delicious meal - this is for you! These no bun burgers (but were using lettuce cups instead!) are the real deal!      5. Chicken Sliders I have to admit, I ate 4 of these burgers while shooting this picture!! They are SO delicious and they are perfect for a family. They may have a "hint" of thai, but the kids will love them!     6. Curried Chickpea and Lentil Patties This is a super delicious and easy way to make vegetarian patties! They're great on they own, in a salad or even as a burger patty!      Try a recipe or two this week and let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing your feedback! My Top 6 Food Myths BUSTED!
My Top 6 Food Myths BUSTED!
Hey lovely ladies! Below are My top 6 Food Myths BUSTED! I hope you like the article.. You might even be surprised by 1 or 2 of these!  1. CARBS MAKE YOU FAT: This saying makes me so sad! Carbohydrates are such an important source of fuel, essential nutrients and dietary fibre. These are all absolutely crucial for a healthy functioning body. Skipping them all together is a no-go! The key is choosing healthier carbohydrates, such as wholegrains, instead of highly refined options. 2. ALL SALADS ARE HEALTHY:  It depends on what is in the salad. If a salad is predominantly made from wholegrains, vegetables or leafy greens, it is generally a healthy choice. However, some salads can pack a triple calorie, fat and sugar punch via a few sneaky ingredients. Watch out for overly creamy dressings, fatty meats and lots of cheese. 3. ORANGES ARE THE BEST SOURCE OF VITAMIN C: All citrus foods, including oranges, are rich in vitamin C, but they are not the only source. Many other foods, including capsicum, leafy greens and tomatoes, also contain vitamin C. So bulk up your meals with those delicious veggies! 4. ORGANIC = HEALTHIER: ‘Organic’ refers to the way in which the food is farmed, not the nutritional value of the food. Organic foods are farmed using techniques that are good for the environment, without using synthetic chemicals. Scientific studies have not shown a significant difference in nutritional content of organic versus non-organic foods. It really comes down to a personal choice as to whether or not you choose to buy organic. 5. SKIPPPING MEALS WILL HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT: There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to a healthy way of eating. If you find that you are not hungry at mealtime, then it is okay to delay eating until your body needs it. However, be mindful of your behaviour – if you tend to skip a meal but find yourself grazing on unhealthy choices instead, it may be worth switching to a regular meal pattern. 6. EATING HEALTHY IS EXPENSIVE: You can still eat healthy on a budget! I cannot push this point enough. You do not have to buy the latest ‘superfood’ to eat a healthy diet – there are many nutritious foods that are budget friendly. Meal planning and buying seasonal produce are key strategies to shopping on a budget. Use the BARE Guide weekly meal planners and shopping lists to help you work out your weekly shop.   If you'd like to see more blog content like this, let me know.. I'm always open to suggestions too! I hope you have a lovely weekend :)Leah xx
